More about Pilates:-
It is well known that Pilates focuses on retraining, re-strengthening and reconditioning your core muscles.
The core is a specific group of muscles which provide support to your abdomen, back, pelvic girdle and pelvic organs. The diaphragm forms the top of your core cylinder and the pelvic floor muscle forms the bottom. The sides and the front of your core are made up of the abdominal muscles (transverses abdominus), and the back by a spinal stabiliser called multifidus (see Fig 3)
The pelvic floor muscle is being increasingly acknowledged as a key stabiliser for the back and pelvic girdle as well as its more traditional roles of continence and pelvic organ support. Evidence suggests that poor function and motor control of the pelvic floor can be a significant contributing factor in ongoing musculoskeletal, gynaecological, urological and colorectal dysfunction. Observational trials have further found a strong link between low back and pelvic pain and associated pelvic floor dysfunction such as incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.
The Physio for Women Pilates classes are a fusion of traditional Pilates and specialist Women’s health physiotherapy exercises and movement sequences for all your Women’s Health needs. There is an additional focus on rehabilitating the pelvic floor muscles in their entirety and with the surrounding connecting lumbo-pelvic musculature.
