Postnatal Conditions
Understandably most women focus on pregnancy, labour and their new arrival, giving little regard to their postnatal recovery. The majority of physiological changes the body undergoes in pregnancy remain for up to 18 months after giving birth. This, combined with the challenges of motherhood and the repetitive baby care duties predisposes you to the following common conditions:
-
Pelvic Girdle Pain
-
Sacro-iliac joint dysfunction
-
Symphysis pubis dysfunction
-
Back pain
-
Neck Pain
-
Abdominal muscle separation
-
Carpal tunnel syndrome
-
Coccyx pain
-
Hip pain
-
Sciatica
See the pelvic floor clinic/pelvic floor Dysfunction for perineal tears, urinary, faecal and prolapse symptoms.
If you have had these symptoms during your pregnancy they are likely to get better once you have had the baby, but will unlikely fully resolve without specialist Women’s Health physiotherapy input.
